Last week we enjoyed a taste of authentic Guanacastecan life in downtown Nosara. Each year, when the corn crop is ready for harvest, the Costa Ricans throw a party...we call it the 'fiesta de maiz'. We were the only gringos at the party, but we felt right at home.
The rain did not dampen our spirits as we listened to a live local band play typical music, watched dancers in 'campesina' (traditional) outfits, cheered on our local equipo play soccer and ate a delicious assortment of corn dishes. As the dancers raised the Costa Rican flag, you could feel (and hear) the pride in the community. Kemper was a bit frightened by all of the loud whistles!
