Getting things done in Costa is a pain in the ass, but the people who are helping out are great... kind of funny. I think that I figured it out today... the same reason that I love ticos, which is their laid back attitude and pura vida everyting is gonna be OK way of life, also makes for really, really bad government systems. I don't think that anyone is fired up enough to make any changes...
On that note here is what we are dealing with this week. When we had lil K, it was during a holiday week and the hospital didn't have the paperwork that we needed, and said come back. So finally we got back to the hospital yesterday to do our paperwork. There are two things that we have to do to get a birth certificate. Fill out the paperwork at CIMA (hospital), then go to the registro. We were told at CIMA that it will take a few days to get the papers over to the registro. So that pretty much kills a birth certificate... just have to wait in San JO till monday if we want it.
Then we go to get our driver license and we cant get them... check out this catch 22... We have a baby here and cant leave the country because she doesn't have a passport, takes about 4-5 months for that. We can only stay in the country for 3 months. We are in tramate, which means waiting for residency, but can't legally drive becuase we have been in the country too long, and cant leave the country because we cant get a passport.. go figure. This is all great but the real kicker is that we called the driver license place today and they told us "no problem" so we went down there with our attorney and his assistant, to wait for 2 hours to be told that we couldn't get them... the cool thing though is that since we send business to Mario he hooked up the whole day... they helped me get a bank account in the morning and almost get a DR in the afternoon and all is cost us was lunch. Try that in the states.
Oh, and getting a bank account here is like buying a missle back home.. took us 2 attorneys and 2 hours. Pretty funny, since 911, the rules to have a bank account in a foreign country are ridiculous.
Fun day! Kemper is still cute.
